The Microsoft Word program is basically a big piece of paper that never runs out. There are many versions of the Microsoft word now. I will be using the Microsoft Office Word 2003 to explain the basic features. The 2003 version has 9 tabs on the top of the screen. They are; File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Table, Window, and Help. These are in order in which they should appear at the top of your screen. In the File, you will find many different tabs. They are all pretty self-explanatory. If you have used Word and have saved your pieces, some or all of them will appear at the bottom depending on how many you have saved. These are quick links to your other files. The most helpful things to know about the File tab is that the save, save as, print, and open are there. The save as brings you to a window that shows you a miniature my documents window. Here, you will be able to choose which files you save your work to and what you save it as. Hence, the name Save as. While you type, you want to save your work often. To do this you go to File- save. You do this only if you have already saved the work in save as or it will automatically bring you to the same window you see when you go to Save as. The sort cut to saving your work is Ctrl (control) -S, which stands for save. This will automatically save your work. The Print button will lead you to yet again, another screen. Here you will have to select your printer, which should already be there. If it is not there, then you will have to select Find Printer. Find the printer you are currently using in the house and select it. After that, yo will select how many copies the printer will make and which pages. The default is all pages and 1 copy. To change the page you want to print, you will go to the Page Range section and choose either Current Page or Pages__________. The current page option will print the page you are currently previewing or reading. The Pages_______, you have to specify which pages you want to print. For example: Pages 1-6.
Then you would click print. If you wanted more copies, you would go to the Copies section. Here you would type in how many copies you wanted. For example: Number of copies: 3
Then you would hit print.
The open file will bring up a window that looks identical to the Save as. Here you can select old pieces of work and bring them up into another Word Document. You would select the one you want to open and then double click. A new window should show up at the bottom of your screen. If it doesn't, wait a little while and then try again.
This concludes my lesson with the Microsoft Word Program.

Random Questions
1.Why is a backpack also called a knapsack? I mean you don't nap with it, or if you do then you nap with it on a long bus ride. But come on the name is really weird!
2.Why is the bathroom called a bathroom when most of the time there is not even a bath tub or shower in there? In addition to that, why is it called a restroom when you don't really rest in there to get more energy. These are also bizarre: water closet, powder room, lavatory, and out house. the only one that makes some sense is washroom because you wash your hands in there, so... it sort of makes sense. Sort of!
3. Why do we call soccer soccer when we don't even play with our socks? Geez, is it really that hard. I mean, the Europeans got it right and it made sense. Fotbal, it is played with our foot.
Just saying, we have some really weird named things.
If you have answers, please, and I mean PLEASE, send them in.

Earth Day
What are you doing on Earth Day? Are you going to watch T.V.? If yes, then wake up! We are going to celebrate this year's Earth by giving the Earth a break. If we all turn off the lights for one hour, then we can let the Earth take a deep breath. Submit any ideas that you may have to help our Earth take a breath on Earth day. Plant a tree, turn off the electronics that are plugged into the outlets, collect trash off the street and parks, and TURN OFF THE LIGHTS! If you do decide to let OUR Earth breath for a hour, then please leave your name and when on Earth Day you did it in the comments. I also want anything that you have done for our Earth on Earth Day. My goal is to get more then 50 people participate in this event on Earth Day. I know that Earth Hour has past, but it's Earth Day for crying out loud! Earth Hour should be on Earth Day. Sorry, just had to mention it. Please send in the things you have done or if you participate in the second Earth hour of the year.
